Offered . .......a 53 year old
1968 Bahamas Monetary Authority One Dollar Note.
The note has crispness and good color with a few fold marks. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II in full jeweled regalia. The colorful undersea scene on the reverse is titled
SEA GARDEN
and there is a version of the Crest of the Bahamas with a British ship chasing two pirate ships at sea. In the 1600's, the Bahamas were a haven for pirates. The first Royal Governor arrived by 1718 to proclaim the motto of the Crown colony as
Expulsis Piratus Restitula Commercia
, meaning Pirates Expelled, Commerce Restored.
