Description
This beautiful banknote was issued by the Central Bank of the Bahamas in 1992 to commemorate the Quincentennial of the First Landfall of Columbus (1492-1992) at San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.
Front: A portrait of Christopher Columbus, based on an oil painting attributed to Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio. The 500th anniversary logo commemorating the event is on the left.
Back: A map of the Bahamas with the three ships in Christopher Columbus' expedition, the Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria at right. At left is a compass and three animals indigenous to the Bahamas:  American flamingos (Phoenicopterus Ruber); Bahama Parrots (Amazona Leucocephala Bahamensis); and the
Salvador Rock Iguana (Cyclura Rileyi).
