Among packet effect enthusiasts, Peter Kane is mostly known for his Emerson & West release of Gypsy Curse, or for the creation of the original Wild Card routine. But he did release a number of other lesser known effects through Emerson & West, and while these did not reach the huge popularity of Gypsy Curse, most of them were equally creative.
One of these lesser known Kane effects is THE DISECTED DAMSEL, which was a packet version of the Robert Harbin Zig-Zag illusion (which in the 1970's was a magic trick that most laypeople had seen if they had seen a magician lately).
This card packet version uses three cards, which you show front and back. One is a queen, which has some pencil lines ruled across it to divide it into thirds. The other two "indifferent" spot cards are placed facedown under the faceup queen -- they are beneath the queen at a 90 degree right angle.
Now the middle section of the queen is slid out (as in the photo -- though the photo does not show the other cards at a right angle below the queen; they would be in actual performance). The spectators see through the (now) open section of the Zig-Zagged queen. The illusion is perfect. Then the middle is slid back into place and the cards are cleanly dropped on the table -- the queen is again unharmed.
The queen can be examined, but the other cards cannot -- my recommendation is that the queen be examined before the effect, letting audience see the pencil lines, and know they are not cuts. There is not really any heat on the spot cards, but better to get the examination of the queen done before hand, and then just put everything away.
The cards are Piatnik bridge size -- Kane's clever method takes advantage of design elements of the Piatnik back.
This effect is very hard to find now, and here is a great example of it --
previously owned, but apparently unused. Instruction sheet is original. If this effect was released with a package sleeve or vinyl wallet, neither of those are here. But the cards and instructions look like new.
