KM 23, one year type, issued for the Province of La Rioja.  One cent size silver coin, with a sunface and coat of arms on the obverse.
Why do we find so many coins that have been holed?  Clothes often did not have pockets, or riding on horseback could be rough, so coins were holed and strung around your neck for protection.  A one real coin could easily be one or two days' pay!  Some coins were holed for decorating bags.  For some coins, a coin without a hole is scarce or unknown.
