Description:
A nice very fine or better banknote issued by the Bank of Japan. This is the no dayte 1963 One Thousand Yen banknote. The note which has Japanese characters on the front is dark green and brown in color on multicolored underprint and depicts the image of prince Ito Hirobumi the well known Japanese statesman to the right. The back has the same color scheme as the front and is written in English showing the words "Nippon Ginko" and the denomination in numbers and the image of the Bank of Japan in the center. The front has the serial number which is W859480Q shown twice in black. The note has a watermark depicting the image of Prince Ito. Please carefully review the scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date:
Undated but known to have been issued in 1963.
Printer:
Unknown.
Size:
Measures ~6 1/2" by ~3".
Pick Number:
P 96a.
Condition:
I would grade the note as a good very fine. This is an attractive not showing evidence of handling and wear. The note has several vertical and horizontal folds. The note is lightly soiled and has a few minor stains. The note also has some graffiti near the top right corner number. The note still has some residual stiffness and some of its original crispiness. The edges of the note are intact with minimum roughness but no tears or splits. The corners of the note are intact but show some rounding as well as a small paper split at the bottom right corner. A nice note that is rather difficult to come by and worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
